Consul General Ivan Frank Olea Visits Chairman Li Xinghua of Panhua Group
6 March 2025, Chongqing - Philippine Consul General Ivan Frank Olea visited Panhua Group Chairman Mr. Li Xinghua at their company’s steel plant in Fuling District. Consul General Olea was given a tour of the massive steel sheet factory which exports its products to many countries in the world, and was informed that the planned investment in a steel manufacturing plant in Maasin, Sarangani Province would be several times bigger and will be the first comprehensive steel plant in the Philippines.
The first phase of the steel manufacturing plant in Maasin is scheduled to start in the 2nd QTR of this year and would employ about 6,000 Filipino workers. By the end of the 2nd phase of construction, the manufacturing plant would employ an estimated 20,000 Filipino workers. At the end of the 3rd and final phase, the plant is projected to produce about 10 million tons of steel products a year.
Chairman Li sees many investment opportunities in the Philippines and has taken the initiative to encourage Chinese enterprises to invest in the country. END.
PCG Chongqing celebrates Women’s Month with Flower Arrangement and Candle-Making Workshops
01 March 2025, Chongqing. The Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing joins the nation in the 2025 National Women’s Month Celebration with the theme “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas” through engaging flower arrangement and candle-making workshops.
The workshops, which were also requested by the women of the Filipino community, promoted gender equality and women empowerment through practical skills that can later on provide opportunities for income generation and financial independence. The workshops also provided a safe space where women could express creativity, gain confidence, and support one another, fostering a sense of community and self-reliance.
The flower arrangement workshop was conducted by PCG Chongqing’s Mr. Ricky Bolanio, thereby providing an opportunity to have men as allies in fostering an inclusive society. Meanwhile, participants learned candle-making from Ms. Jocelyn Lagrimas, a member of the Filipino community.
Participants, women and men alike, including friends of other nationalities, also enjoyed a merienda of pansit and puto. END
“Love the Philippines” tourism videos now play in Robinsons Galleria Chongqing
27 February 2025, Chongqing. Consul General Ivan Frank M. Olea and Mr. Dave Law, General Manager of Chongqing Robinsons Land Real Estate Co. Ltd., launched “Love the Philippines” promotion videos in Robinsons Galleria Chongqing.
Chongqing is known as a Mountain City, so its residents look forward to oceanic destinations and waterscapes. Through the videos from the Philippine Department of Tourism-Shanghai, passers-by and mall shoppers of Robinsons Galleria can have a sneak peek of the stunning sun and beach destinations, diving activities, and gastronomical experiences of the Philippines.
With this cooperation to feature “Love the Philippines” videos, the Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing aims to encourage tourism and people-to-people exchanges. END
Celebrating National Arts Month with the Filipino Community and Consulate General in Chongqing.
15 February 2025, Chongqing. In line with this year's theme "Ani ng Sining, Diwa at Damdamin", the Filipino Community in Chongqing, together with the Philippine Consulate General, proudly hosted a vibrant Malong Dance Workshop.
Through this workshop, we celebrated the deep connection between art, spirit, and emotions—showcasing the beauty of Filipino traditions and the power of culture to unite and inspire. The Malong Dance, with its graceful movements, embodied the heart and soul of Mindanao’s rich cultural heritage.
Ms. Sarah Feliciano Martin of the Cultural Group of the Filipino Community in Chongqing led the workshop and shared the importance of the Malong as an expression of sining and a vector of diwa.
A heartfelt thank you to those who participated and made this event unforgettable. Together, we continue to honor and share the beauty of Filipino arts.
