Chongqing, 30 March 2024 – To support the Philippines’ Gender and Development advocacy and in celebration of the National Women’s Month, the Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing took part in “Embracing Spring: Fun Run in Chongqing, an International Women’s Exchange Event,” on 30 March 2024 at the Shanhu Park, Yuzhong District, Chongqing.

The event, organized by the Chongqing Foreign Affairs Office, Chongqing Women’s Federation, Yuzhong District Communist Party Committee, and Yuzhong District People’s Government, celebrated women empowerment and provided a venue for closer engagement between Chinese and foreign women in Chongqing. Female local government officials, members of the consular corps, entrepreneurs, scientists, and leaders of social organizations participated in the event.

As the Fun Run’s principal foreign guest, Consul General Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo was given the honor of dotting the dragon’s eye, a Chinese ritual for good fortune and health, at the opening ceremony.

“The Philippines retains its lead among Asian countries in terms of narrowing the gender gap, as per the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Index 2023. While we have much to do to improve the situation of Filipino women and girls, the Philippines can readily share good practices on gender and development.  The Philippine Consulate General remains open to engagements with local agencies and communities to support the global agenda on women,” said Consul General Mayo.
