Filipino kids in Chongqing welcome National Heritage Month with colorful banderitas
Chongqing, 01 May 2024 – In partnership with the United Filipinos in Chongqing, the Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing organized today a banderitas-making workshop for Filipino children.
Guided by Ms. Arlene C. Pascasio, the Consulate’s Cultural Officer, ten children enthusiastically strung together colored papers and yarns to form their own banderitas. When asked what the banderitas signify or remind them of, the children readily answered “festivals,” “celebrations,” and their hometowns in the Philippines.
“The colorful banderitas hold significant symbolism in welcoming our National Heritage Month. They symbolize our vibrant and diverse cultural heritage. Their undeniable presence at fiestas serves as a visual representation of our nation’s colorful and multi-cultural traditions and heritage,” said Vice Consul Adrian G. Miras.
The National Heritage Month is celebrated every May by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 439, s. 2003 to “create in the people a consciousness, respect and love for the legacies of Filipino cultural history” and to “celebrate our people’s multi-cultural traditions.”
