22 November 2023 - The Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing welcomed today 47 Grade 12 students and nine administrators and teachers of the Xavier School in San Juan City in their first immersive tour of Chongqing, China.  The visit comes on the heels of weeks-long Project-Based Learning in Yunnan Province.

During the official program held at the consulate’s premises, Consul General Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo delivered an introductory presentation on the daily operations of the Consulate spanning citizen and visa services as well as economic, cultural and public diplomacy.  “I invite you, Xavier School’s most promising senior high school students, to consider a future career in the Philippine foreign service just like alumni of your alma mater in the DFA who have found fulfillment in public service,” she told the young visitors who have styled themselves as Philippine ambassadors of goodwill in their interactions with ordinary Chinese citizens.

In return, the students presented to the Consulate group findings on the question “Is Yunnan a Globalized Region?”  as the output of this year’s Xavier China Experience. Invariably, they hoped to infuse their future professions with local best practices observed first-hand during their study visit in China.

The Consulate also arranged for them a tour of the Chongqing University where they learned about its scholarships on offer and strengths in engineering as well as social and natural sciences.  The prestigious university belongs to the top 1% of Chinese higher education institutions and proudly calls Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei as one of their own.

Rev. Fr. Aristotle C. Dy, President of Xavier School, led this year’s XCE in Yunnan and Chongqing.  The bespoke program contributes to the strengthening of longstanding friendship between the Philippines and China while fostering deeper people-to-people understanding through experiential learning.  END
