PH and Chongqing pursue stronger higher education cooperation
Guiyang, Guizhou Province, 28 August 2023 – At the sidelines of the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW) in Guiyang, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson J. Prospero E. De Vera III and Chongqing Municipal Education Commission (CMEC) Director General Liu Yanbing met today to explore possible areas of higher education cooperation between the Philippines and Chongqing.
CMEC Director General Liu suggested that both sides undertake initiatives to expand channels and platforms for academic exchanges, deepen cooperation in vocational education, support research projects and build think-tanks.
CHED Chairperson De Vera concurred with the suggested approaches and cited the Marcos administration’s priority to develop a robust education-industry nexus to power national economic development. In this regard, he recognized Chongqing’s technological advancements in artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing and data science, among other fields.
Their meeting produced a Joint Statement that encouraged sustainable partnerships between Philippine and Chongqing universities and research collaboration among students and faculties. Both sides shared a vision for greater people-to-people connectivity, fostering high-quality education and advancing inclusive prosperity.
Upon the invitation of the Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing, a delegation composed of CHED officials and representatives of Philippine Higher Education Institutions (PHEIs) will proceed to Chongqing on 2-6 September 2023 for introductory visits to potential partners in Southwest China’s mega-Municipality.
