MANILA 25 July 2023 – A delegation from the Chongqing People’s Government headed by Madam Lu Hong, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee and Chief of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Chongqing Committee, called on DFA Assistant Secretary Paul Vincent L. Uy on Thursday, 20 July 2023 at the DFA office in Pasay City.

The delegation is in the Philippines to meet with PH government officials and business groups in efforts to deepen Chongqing's socio-economic ties and cultural relations with the country. It is particularly interested in seeking greater cooperation in infrastructure development, tourism and sister-city arrangements.

Madam Lu is confident that Chongqing could offer numerous business opportunities to the Philippines given that the municipality is home to companies that have competencies in the development of infrastructure related to green technology and digital connectivity. The delegation also hopes to increase tourism flows between Chongqing and the PH post-Covid time.

Assistant Secretary Uy briefed the delegation on economic developments in the Philippines, highlighting the country’s vibrant economic growth in recent years despite the shocks brought by the pandemic and other global headwinds. He invited Chongqing businessmen to invest in the PH, especially to support the Build Better More program of the administration.

With renewed cooperation with the municipality of Chongqing, Assistant Secretary Uy also looks forward to a greater engagement with the municipality to increase the flow of tourists between the Philippines and Chongqing, and to bring back the numbers of tourists from China to the pre-pandemic level of more than 1.7 million tourists from China in 2019.

Assistant Secretary Uy encouraged the officials from the municipality of Chongqing to continue to coordinate with the PH Consulate General in Chongqing in pursuing cooperation in the areas of agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and people-to-people exchanges. END
