PH brands showcased at biggest trade fair in Southwest China

Chongqing, 21 May 2023 – For the second year in a row, the Philippines took part in the 5th Western China International Fair for Investment and Trade (WCIFIT) held from 18 to 21 May 2023 at the Chongqing Yuelai International Convention Center, Chongqing, China to promote Philippine exports and investment opportunities.

Through the Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing, the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (Shanghai), Office of Agriculture Counselor (Beijing), and the Philippine Department of Tourism (Shanghai), the Philippine country pavilion gathered nine (9) companies and four (4) travel agencies to promote Philippine brands and tourism packages at the fair.

The introduction of the Philippine durian in the 5th WCIFIT added to local consumer options for the increasingly popular fruit through Eng Seng Food Products. Other food items featured were Oishi snacks from Liwayway Co., Ltd., canned meat loaf and coconut milk from Century Pacific Food, Inc., Aqua Coco coconut water from Century Pacific Agricultural Ventures, Inc., biscuits from Republic Biscuit Corporation (Resbisco), SuperCoco VCO from Team Asia Corporation, MY San Biscuits and Nutri-Asia products from Lianyungang Dawn Trading Co., Ltd., banana chips from Excellent Quality Goods Supply, as well as fresh and canned pineapple from S&W Fine Foods International Limited.

The Philippines also took the occasion to offer tour packages through Asia Landmark Tours and Travel, Inc., ADJ Happy Travel, Inc., Chongqing Global Tourism, and Chongqing Bozhong for the country’s top destinations such as Cebu, Boracay, and Bohol.

Commercial Consul Mario C. Tani (PTIC) and Agriculture Counselor Ana Gracia Maria B. Abejuela (OAC), lent their physical presence at the fair to familiarize potential investors and consumers with trade and investment opportunities in the Philippines.   

Exhibitors from 40 countries and regions participated in this year’s WCFIT, a record high for the the biggest trade and investment promotion platform in southwest China with 13 exhibition halls, including the international pavilions, in the 180,000 square-foot expo area.

“Riding the momentum of Chongqing’s opening up as an international city through the 2023 WCFIT, we significantly expanded the range of Philippine offerings with a total of nine (9) companies joining us in this pavilion including travel agencies drumming up interest in Philippine tourism.  The “King of Fruits”, the Philippine durian, was also a welcome addition to the selection of Philippine exports being promoted in China,” said Acting Head of Post Adrian G. Miras as he invited people to visit the Philippine pavilion at the 5th WCIFIT.  END
