Filipino Food finds its way to Chongqing Menus

Chongqing PCG Filipino Food in Chongqing Menu

Chongqing, 26 April 2023 – To celebrate Filipino Food Month, the Philippine Consulate General partnered with two restaurants in the busy Jiefangbei Central Business District to promote Filipino food in the mega-municipality of Chongqing, China.

The Brits Restaurant of the high-end Lixury Hotel kicked off its new executive lunch consisting of ensaladang manga, chicken and pork adobo with garlic rice, and canonigo.  Meanwhile, Suliven Restaurant and Bar at the Old Site of the China-UK Liaison Office, a popular landmark in downtown Chongqing, will be offering Filipino-themed canapes as a regular part of its bar menu.  These include pakbet shooters, adobo crostini, afritada croquettas, Brazo de Mercedes cups and leche flan.

“I love Philippine adobo and learned that every family would add their personal touch in making their adobo.  I too would do the same but never missing to use Philippine soy sauce,” Chef Nicola Sangiovanni said of his choice for The Brits Restaurant’s new executive lunch.  He fondly recalled being invited to Filipino homes where he had his first taste of adobo.

For her part, Ms. Sunny Song, owner of Suliven Restaurant, was similarly hooked by her first taste of Filipino food during a cocktail reception hosted by the Philippine Consulate General last November 2022.  Excited to try more Filipino food, Ms. Song “welcomes the inclusion of Filipino food in her restaurant’s menu.”

Several other hotels have also trained their kitchen staff in preparing Philippine dishes for the Consulate’s past social events, notably Dekin Hotel (formerly Crowne Plaza Hotel), Radisson Hotel, and Sheraton Hotel.

Filipino food recipes were sourced from Chef Laudico Flips Out! and Kulinarya: A Guidebook to Philippine Cuisine.

“Filipino food continues to be a huge part of our economic and cultural diplomacy efforts.  It is our hope that the Consulate’s initiatives will lead to Chongqing foodies visiting the Philippines for culinary trips around the country,” Philippine Consul General Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo remarked at the conclusion of the Filipino Food Month.  END
