PH Promotes Artisanal Crafts and Fiesta Tourism at Cultural Industry Expo in China

Chongqing, China – The Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing showcased Filipino craftsmanship at the 11 th Chongqing International Cultural Industry Expo held from 7 to 9 April 2023 at the Nanping International Convention and Exhibition Center in the megacity of Chongqing, China. Selected artisanal pieces were displayed at the Philippine booth including unique handwoven baskets and bags; wooden jeepneys, tricycles, and kalesas; beautifully designed shell tableware; and an attractive collection of upcycled brass items handcrafted by fair trade T’boli artisans. At the margins of the Expo, Philippine Consul General Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo spoke about the Philippines’ uniqueness as China’s southeast Asian neighbor in an interview by iChongqing, a multimedia information platform for all things Chongqing. “The Filipinos’ native culture and religious nature have bred colorful fiestas that embody our love for dancing, singing, and sharing our blessings.

We find all kinds of reasons to celebrate life in our 7,641 islands on any given day,” she explained. The Consul General took the occasion to invite her Chinese audience to plan their beach trip to the Philippines around a fun fiesta for a memorable, immersive visitor experience. She described some of the Philippines’ most popular festivals as a good place to take a deep dive into the depths of the country’s diverse culture.

The Cultural Industry Expo is an annual event hosted by the Chongqing Daily Newspaper Group, under the guidance of the Chongqing Municipal Culture and Tourism Development Commission and the Propaganda Department of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee. This year’s Expo occupied 30,000 square meters and featured thousands of exhibitors from various districts and provinces of Chongqing, as well as selected countries such as the Philippines, Uruguay and Belarus.
