Chongqing PCG Livestream Platform Spotlights Top PH Tourism Destinations

24 March 2023 - The Philippines took centerstage at a live streaming event promoting Air Asia’s southeast Asian destinations on 24 March 2023 in Chongqing, China.

Speaking to thousands of Chinese online viewers, Philippine Consul General Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo recommended several Philippine island destinations, including Palawan, Boracay, Cebu and Bohol, particularly for first time visitors from China’s inland region.  The Consul General also touted the unique flavors of Philippine food prepared in abundance during the country’s fiestas celebrated throughout the year.

The Consul General outlined experiential and immersion tours that can be enjoyed by various market segments such as families, retirees, divers, newly-weds, and Generation Z visitors.  “There is something for everyone in our beautiful Philippine islands and always a welcoming Filipino smile for our friendly visitors,” she assured.

Consul General Mayo recalled that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and President Xi Jinping encouraged more people-to-people exchanges with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on tourism cooperation in January this year.  “The MOU signaled a commitment by our countries to pursue pre-pandemic levels of tourist arrivals and more direct flights between Philippine and Chinese cities,” she explained.

In 2019, China ranked second in terms of visitor arrivals.  China is regarded as the Philippines’ fastest growing market since 2016 and second highest source of foreign tourism revenue. END
