PH and Chongqing Foreign Affairs Office discuss PBBM visit, explore relevant directions for bilateral cooperation
Chongqing, 11 January 2023 – The Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing and the Chongqing Foreign Affairs Office (FAO) met today to consider a roadmap for official engagements following China’s lifting of COVID-related restrictions.
Modelling potential initiatives after priority areas identified during the state visit to China of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. on 3-5 January 2023, Consul General Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo and Deputy Director General Feng Zimin exchanged ideas that could contribute to the enhancement of overall bilateral relations. Both sides paid special attention to possible activities in agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and people-to-people exchanges, in addition to eCommerce, trade, investment, and education.
“With bright prospects for the recovery of Philippines-China trade and tourism flows, as well as more face-to-face economic engagements, we stand ready to work at our level to help bring bilateral relations to a higher gear,” Consul General Mayo said. Towards this end, the Philippine Consulate General and the Chongqing FAO agreed to meet every quarter to sustain their close partnership.
Also present in the meeting were Vice Consul Adrian G. Miras and Senior Interpreter, Mr. Timothy Wong, for the Philippine Consulate General, and Foreign Affairs-Asia Division Director, Mr. Xu Sheng, as well as officials of the New Land-Sea Corridor Operations Unit, Ms. Ma Danni and Mr. Liu Yizhen, for the Chongqing side.
