The Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group successfully staged in Chongqing a Philippine cultural show with the theme Of Harmony and Friendship: a Filipino Christmas Musical Performance. The show was held on 3 December 2010 at the Bayu Theater in Hongyadong.

The 850-seat Bayu Theater was at full capacity as Chongqing government officials, media people, travel executives, members of the Consular Corps and the general public watched the performance.

Mr. Peng Yonghui, Vice Chairman of the Chongqing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, was the Guest of Honor for the event.

The 20-member dance company enthralled the audience with a dazzling array of lights and colors, intricate dance movements and steps, and exquisite showmanship.

The cultural presentation was a project implemented under the Philippines-China Cultural Agreement and was held as part of the continuing celebrations this year of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and China.

Consul General Charles C. Jose said in his Welcome Remarks that the cultural show is significant in many ways --- it is a joint project between the two governments under the Cultural Agreement; it is to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Philippines-China relations; it is the Consulate's first major cultural activity in Chongqing since its establishment almost two years ago; and it showcases the Philippines' Christmas traditions.

In his Opening Remarks, Vice Chairman Peng stated: "Through the performance of the Ramon Obusan art troupe, our Chongqing citizens will know more about our beautiful neighbor, the Philippines, and further strengthen our friendship and cooperation."

The Chinese audience went home that night with a better understanding of Philippine history and a deeper appreciation of the richness and diversity of Philippine culture.
