The Consulate on 10 November 2010 donated 130 copies of the children's book, "A Selection of Folk Tales from the Philippines for the Young Chinese Reader," to each of the following primary schools in Chongqing: Ren He Jie Primary School, Ren Min Lu Primary School, and Zao Zi Lan Ya Primary School.
The book donation ceremony, which was attended by the Chongqing Foreign Affairs Office, Education Commission of Yuzhong District of Chongqing, Yuzhong District Foreign Affairs Office, and the Headmasters and representative students of the 3 primary schools, was held at the Ren He Jie Primary School.
The book was produced by the Philippine Embassy in Beijing to mark in 2010 the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and China. It is a compilation of ten (10) Philippine folk tales, complete with illustration and translation into Chinese, which were carefully chosen to represent the various islands and ethno-linguistic groups in the Philippines.
The book project aims to increase the awareness of the Philippines and the Filipinos among Chinese children and seeks to introduce the young Chinese reader to distinctively Filipino beliefs and traditions.
In his remarks, Consul General Charles C. Jose stated that the production and distribution of the children's book to primary school students in China is the Philippines' way of investing in the future of the relationship between the Philippines and China by cultivating the spirit of friendship and understanding in our young school children. He also expressed the hope that the school children who will get to read the book will have fun and enjoy reading it and at the same time learn more about the Philippines.
The Consulate also distributed the books to primary schools in Yunnan and Guizhou provinces.
