Tambol, Padyak at Gayak introduced to Filipino Kids in Chongqing
Chongqing, 14 August 2022 – To celebrate the Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa, the Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing hosted Filipino children in a workshop conducted by the Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group, called the Palihang Pambata sa Bahay ni Kuya Mon.
Twelve (12) Filipino children aged 4 to 18 enjoyed the day-long program consisting of three parts: the Tambol where they learned the rhythms of selected Philippine indigenous dances; the Padyak which introduced them to tribal dances signifying the human connection to the earth; and Gayak, the venerable Yakan custom of face painting.
“This year, we chose to focus our celebration of Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa on the Filipino community’s youngest members. The immersive experience offered by the Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group took our participants to the child-friendly depths of Filipino language and culture. It was a real pleasure to see them embrace their Filipino heritage and identity,” Philippine Consul General Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo remarked. END
