Chongqing PCG Celebrates 2020 National Heritage Month
26 May 2020, Chongqing. The Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing celebrated the 2020 National Heritage Month by organizing a screening of the Legacy: Philippine World Heritage Sites, a documentary film from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and Infinit-1 Production, on 25 May 2020 at Post’s Conference Room.
Before the screening began, Acting Head of Post Adrian G. Miras informed Chongqing PCG’s personnel and their dependents that the month of May is declared as the National Heritage Month, thus, the screening of the said documentary. He also gave a brief description of the documentary and emphasized the importance of preserving the different world heritage sites.
The documentary was presented by Architect Augusto Villalon, who offered a tour of eight Philippine locations declared by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites, namely: the Tubbataha Reef National Marine Park, the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, the Ifugao Rice Terraces, the Historic City of Vigan in Ilocos Sur, and the four baroque churches of San Agustin in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, the Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion Church in Santa Maria, the Santo Tomas De Villanueva also known as Miag-ao Church in Iloilo City, and San Agustin Church in Intramuros, Manila.
Architect Villalon did not only show in his documentary the beauty of these world heritage sites but also presented some challenges faced by the Philippine government and other stakeholders in maintaining and preserving our heritage sites.
The activity was participated in only by Post’s personnel and their dependents in compliance with the local authority’s regulations regarding assemblies during the COVID-19 epidemic.
The screening aims to enrich the knowledge of the participants on Philippine culture through its world heritage sites. It also aims to strengthen and deepen the sense of pride of being Filipinos of the home-based personnel, and to sow greater appreciation of Filipinos and their culture for the locally hired Chinese employees.
