Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing Joins the ASEAN Consulates General based in Kunming in Celebration of the 52nd ASEAN Founding Anniversary
08 August 2019 – Six ASEAN Consulates General based in Kunming , Yunnan Province, including Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing, which is accredited to the Yunnan Province, celebrates the 52nd ASEAN founding anniversary at the 5-star Garden Lake Hotel in Kunming on 08 August 2019. Royal Thai Consul General Nitivadee Manitkul, ASEAN Chair in Kunming, leads the celebration.
The celebration was the first ever held ASEAN anniversary gathering by the ASEAN Consulates in Kunming. In attendance was the guest of honor Yunnan Vice-Governor Mr. Zhang Guoha, FAO and other Chinese officials and the six (6) Consuls General based in Kunming, i.e from Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia (Acting CG) and the Philippines. The Consul General of Singapore based in Guangzhou was not able to attend due to another commitment but he sent their food contribution for the event, consisting of desserts.
Prior to the start of the program, Vice Governor Zhang had a brief meeting with the ASEAN Consuls General. He expressed thanks to the ASEAN member countries which contributed more than fifty percent of Yunnan’s total trade. He also expressed appreciation of the individual members of ASEAN for their respective contribution in the realization of President Xi Jinping’s innovative Built and Road Initiative project. He said that it is the alternative to the growing multilaterallistic moves of some countries, which dampen the growth of global trade.
One of the highlights of the program were the cultural performance of Thai artists who travelled from Bangkok showcasing 3-minute repertoire of dances and costumes of the ten(10) ASEAN member countries with the colorful cultural/historical landmarks of each country as backdrops.
After the formal program, the estimated 100 attendees of the event partook of the food from the eight ASEAN countries. The Philippine Consulate General contributed chicken adobo for the event, which was prepared by one of the members of the Filipino Community in Kunming.
After the ASEAN event, Consul General Relacion met with the members of the executive committee of the Filcom organization, the Kunming Filipino Community (KFC), together with family members, under the leadership of Mr. Gilber Unica.
