Chongqing, 23-24 September 2023 – With the theme “Building a Gender-Responsive Team,” the Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing organized an in-house Gender and Development (GAD) Training and Teambuilding Activity in Nanchuan, District, Chongqing from 23 to 24 September 2023. The activity aimed to create a safe and inclusive work environment while promoting the use of gender-fair language in the workplace.

At the workshop proper, Consul General Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo discussed the significance of Gender and Development as one of the Department of Foreign Affairs’ key advocacies. She encouraged all personnel to internalize the principles of gender sensitivity by incorporating gender-fair language at the workplace, among other things.

Vice Consul Adrian G. Miras, Post’s GAD Focal person, delivered a lecture on the use of gender-fair language. He highlighted alternative gender-neutral terms for daily communication. Each participant was given the opportunity to share their perspectives on gender-fair language and personal takeaways from the lecture.

To help personnel to cope with stress arising from multiple roles, particularly for working women who also care for their families while managing their households, the Consulate offered a basic yoga lesson that imparted useful techniques for self-care.

“This activity is one of several annual events organized by the Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing to advance the Department of Foreign Affairs’ Gender and Development agenda and personnel welfare. We are committed to undertaking initiatives that support the common aspiration for a gender-fair, safe and inclusive workplace wherever we are assigned in the foreign service,” Consul General Mayo said.
