Philippine Consulate General in Chongqings Conducts Gender and Sensitivity Learning Session to its Staff and Members of Filipino Community
Chongqing, 26 January 2019. The Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing holds a Learning Session on Gender Sensitivity (GST) for its officers and, staff including locally hired employees, as well as for the members of Filipino Community in Chongqing on Saturday, 26 January 2019 at the Meeting Room, 49th Floor of World Financial Center, Yuzhong District, Chongqing. There were 11 female and 10 male attendees whose age range from 29 to 64 years old.
The learning session on GST was conducted by Ms. Maria Crisedna S. Magsumbol, Monitoring Evaluation Officer for the Support WEE Project of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW).
Ms. Magsumbol included in her presentation topics on sex and gender concepts, sex and gender roles, gender stereotypes and other key concepts related to gender and developments. The session also included activities engaging active participation of all the attendees.
In his welcome message, Consul General Relacion expressed his gratitude for Ms. Magsumbol who was in personal business in Chongqing but agreed to conduct a GST for the Post’s personnel and for the members of Filipino Community. He added that Post supports the Philippine Government’s advocacy to promote awareness on gender sensitivity to all members of the society in order to further enhance gender equality. He also mentioned that the Philippines is among the top (ten) 10 countries which actively addressing gender issues and promote gender equality.
An open forum followed after the learning session on GST and the questions were answered by Ms. Magsumbol and Consul General Relacion. The participants were mostly satisfied with the session and they suggested topics for future events of the Consulate such as rights and services for the OFWs, Chinese labor laws, financial management, retirement and business opportunities for OFWs.
