PROHIBITION AGAINST THE USE OF PASSPORTS
AS COLLATERAL FOR LOANS
The Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing would like to remind and warn all Filipinos in its jurisdiction against the use of their passport as collateral for loans (sangla).
Please be reminded that the Philippine Passport is the property of the Philippine Government and, therefore, no one, not even the passport holder, has the authority to use said passport as a collateral or guarantee for any loan.
Any person violating this prohibition may have his/her passport cancelled and his/her name included in the watchlist. On the other hand, the creditor keeping another’s passport as collateral or guarantee may also have his/her name included in the watchlist if a Filipino citizen, or in the Bureau of Immigration’s blacklist if a foreigner.
