Warning Against Non-Formal Ways of Remitting Money to the Philippines

The Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing would like to reiterate our warning to all Filipinos against the use of non-formal ways of remitting money to the Philippines.

There is an increasing number of remittance problems that were encountered by Filipinos in other parts of China and had been reported to the Embassy and Consulates. Most of the victims complained that the amount they remitted was either partially remitted to their families in the Philippines or not remitted at all.

The Consulate understands that Filipinos currently experience difficulties in remitting their money to the Philippines due to strict documentary requirements, lack of time to visit and facilitate the remittance through the authorized remittance centers, and high remittance fees of legitimate entities. However, since the “non-formal remittance services” are not legally authorized by the Chinese Government to operate, they can cease their operations anytime without all unremitted money being returned to the owners.

The members of the Filipino communities are encouraged to always avail themselves of the remittance services of legitimate entities. END
